WINTER PARK HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 1959

Dear Classmates,

There is a rumor going around that the class of 1959 from Winter Park High School is getting ready to celebrate 50 years since graduation--hard to believe, isn't it?  It is true, and in honor of this special event, a committee has been formed to plan a reunion.  More information will be forthcoming, but we can tell you to mark your calendars for Friday, April 17, 2009, through Sunday, April 19, 2009.

All of the plans are not set in stone as yet, but we will be planning a "Meet and Greet" on Friday evening. On Saturday, we will plan on atttending the "Picnic in the Park" from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  This is an annual event that is held at Central Park on Park Avenue in downtown Winter Park.  Tables are set up with signs representing the different graduating classes. There is always a good turnout and is a wonderful opportunity to visit not only with your classmates, but those from other classes as well.  This year's event on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., marks WPHS's 80th Anniversary.

Friday, Bill Winderweedle and Lee Gartside will be organizing a Golf Tournament, details to follow.

Saturday night we will have our dinner and program at Dubsdread Country Club from 7:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.  Lee Gartside will be in charge of our program, so you know it will be fun!

ALL of our events will be casual dress, (meaning no coats and ties for the men and slacks or casual dresses for the ladies.)

The other events are still in the planning stage.  We should be able to give you this information in the next letter.

Enclosed you will find the information sheets for you to fill out and send back.  This is VERY IMPORTANT as we are planning an Extensive Memory Book that will include addresses. phone numbers, pictures and information on our classmates as to what's been going on in their lives for the past fifty years.  Even if you think you won't be attending the reunion-you will want to have a Memory Book.  So, please, everyone, fill it out and return in the enclosed envelope ASAP

We will be blocking off rooms at the "Mount Vernon Inn" on Orlando Avenue at a discounted rate.  More information will follow. Everyone is responsible for making his or her own reservation.

Our graduation program listed 191 graduates.  However, we had many others who attended WPHS, but graduated from other high schools. If you know how to get in touch with any of those who attended WPHS, please let us know.  Also included are those we have not been able to locate.  Any information as to how to locate them would be greatly appreciated. We welcome everyone!

Our website is up and running. To view this, log onto WPHSalumni-1959.com. Information will be updated regularly. Please send the Webmaster (Jacque at wphs1959@aol.com) a current picture and any others you would like to share.

We are very interested in any suggestions or ideas you might have regarding the reunion. Many of you have gone to reunions with your spouses. Let us know if there was anything you found to be unique or special. We are constantly looking for new ideas.  We realize we have a year before our reunion, but it takes a lot of time and constant work to pull this together.  Fifty-year reunions only happen once-we want this to be memorable.

We look forward to hearing from you. This reunion will be a wonderful time to renew friendships and look back on our days at WPHS.

If you have any questions or information, please call:

Fourth and Final Letter, March, 2009

WINTER PARK HIGH SCHOOL

CLASS OF 1959

 March, 2009

Dear Classmates,

This is the last letter before the reunion--April 17, 18, & 19--we're down to four weeks.  We have talked to many of you and everyone is very excited and really looking forward to our reunion weekend.

We had a great meeting at George and Sarah Sprinkel's house with 30 of our classmates attending.  They provided us with a delicious lunch and we talked about a lot of reunion plans.  It was a fun day for everyone.

Included in this letter is a list of those who have turned in their orange registration sheet letting us know they will be attending the reunion.  We have more who've said they are coming, but they haven't returned the orange sheet as yet.  The "orange sheet" is what makes it official.  We would appreciate anyone unable to come to the reunion to still turn in their orange sheet.  Also if you haven't done so already) PLEASE return your information sheet.  We want as much information as possible from as many as possible to add to the Memory Book.

Our Memory Book will be jam-packed with all kinds of information--names, addresses, phone numbers, pictures from all the events and of everyone that attends--plus lots and lots of extras.  Even if you are unable to attend, the Memory Book will be interesting for everyone.  If you didn't order one and you change your mind, please notify Barbara Ellis Price at 407-855-0481 or drop her a line at 3609 Northglenn Drive, Orlando, Florida 32806.  She will add your name to the list.  It will probably take about two months after the reunion before the book will be sent to you.  It takes time to get all the pictures from the reunion--plus getting the candid shots from the classmates.

Any of you who find that plans have changed, and you will be able to attend any of the functions, please let us know.  We don't want anyone to miss this if possible.

The Winter Park Historical Museum, which is located at one end of the Farmer's Market, will be open on Friday, April 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  This will be an interesting place to visit.  They are staying open especially for us.

The committee has worked hard to plan what we feel is a fun weekend for all of us.  We will also be having our former teachers join us.  We know that will be a special treat not only for us, but for them, too.

We will be drawing for donated prizes. Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning--we will have special drawings for a very nice prize--one each day.

As you can see, we have a lot planned so be sure to take your vitamins.

Remember, ALL EVENTS ARE CASUAL.  What does that mean exactly?  It means--no coats or ties for the men--slacks or casual dresses for the ladies.

"Picnic in the Park" will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 to 1:00  The Class of 1959 will be called on stage and recognized for our "50th Reunion".  It is located in Central Park on Park Ave.  Each class year will have a table set up marked with their class.  It's loads of fun--plus, you see lots of other people from other classes.  After the "Picnic in the Park," anyone who would like to join us--we will be going down to the Rollins College Beanery for lunch (on your own).

If you have any questions, please call Barbara Ellis Price at 407-855-0481 or Barbie Cusano Kingsland at 407-718-5281.
